The Nocturnal Cat

The life of a cat, her real life, takes place at night
Far from our houses, away, out of sight.
When we turn down the lights and light a cigarette instead
After we've had a couple of drinks, when we decide to go to bed –
Then it's time for the cat to sneak out of the house
Covered by a coat of darkness, beware thee, oh mouse!

Her velvet claws hardly touch the ground
The waving of her tail doesn't make the slightest sound
Her eyes seem luminous and radiant in the dark
As she makes her way through the desolate park
She looks up to the moon that lives in a dark cloudless sky
Her thoughts are those of a woken dreamer, she utters a faint cry..

What is she thinking of? For us humans it's hard to find
Out what's bothering the cat's mysterious mind.
Suddenly an unexpected movement catches her eye
It's a tiny grey mouse, oblivious and shy!
The cat decides to end her prey's already short life
Her formerly velvet claws touch it like a knife

Such are the ways of the night time cat
A gloomy history resulting in death
Without leaving any footprints, she returns home in silence
To dream of her secrets concerning midnight violence
And in the morning, when we human beings open our eyes
We'll find her purring and pretending her character's all nice.
